In the heart of Golden, Colorado, Barrels and Bottles Brewery is dialing up the excitement with its Krispy King Lager Competition, an eagerly awaited prelude to the renowned Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Taking place on the spirited Wednesday of October 8th, beer lovers are in for a treat with an array of perfectly crisp and immensely drinkable lagers.
Largest-ever Krispy King Lager Competition
This year marks the most significant gathering yet, with 45 breweries from across the United States participating in the Krispy King showdown. The Barrels and Bottles patio will transform into a vibrant hub for brewers and beer enthusiasts to gather, enjoy superb lagers, and establish connections. Zach George, co-owner and manager of the brewery, shares, “We want this event to be a haven for brewers to relax, grab a quality pint, and recharge amidst the hustle of their busy lives.”
Elevating the 2025 Krispy King Lager Competition further, Barrels and Bottles will unveil a special lager made exclusively with premium ingredients from Briess Malt & Ingredients, Propagate Labs, and Hopsteiner. This unique brew can only be savored in the event’s VIP area, offering a rare treat for attendees.

The Krispy King Lager Competition welcomes everyone, not just the brewing aficionados. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy crisp golden lagers, network with like-minded individuals, and delve into the depths of craft brewing. Alongside the impressive lineup of beers, the day promises engaging activities like large-format games, a cigar lounge, a variety of food trucks, and live music. The excitement kicks off at 2 p.m. and wraps up by 8 p.m. Notably, esteemed judges Ashleigh Carter and Bill Eye from Denver’s Bierstadt Lagerhaus will crown the ultimate Krispy King (or Queen) by 6 p.m., after sampling and evaluating the best brews showcased.
